Important Information Regarding Summer Math Courses

A summer math course offers students an excellent opportunity to advance their skills and prepare for the next academic year. These fast-paced, honors-level courses meet four hours a day, four days a week, over four to five weeks.

Eligibility Requirements:
To enroll, students must:

  • Maintain a 92% or higher average on assessments throughout the academic year.
  • Receive a recommendation from their current math teacher.
  • Consistently complete homework and classwork assignments on time while staying current with all material.
  • Maintain their grades for the remainder of the academic year; a drop in performance may result in losing eligibility for the summer course.

Advancement:
Students must successfully complete the course to advance their math placement for the following year.

This program is designed for motivated learners ready to take their math skills to the next level.

Course Description:

The course includes the study of polynomial functions, rational function, exponential and logarithmic functions, transformations, trigonometric functions, advanced algebra, and complex numbers.  This course is non-leveled and is recommended for accelerated and honors students.

Topics:

  • Graphing and analyzing all types of functions
  • Solving all types of equations, including polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric
  • Application of exponential and logarithmic functions
  • Trigonometry, graphing, identities, and evaluating
  • Sequences and Series
  • Matrices

Students will receive a grade, however, no credits will be assigned.  For students who do not attend St. John’s, a letter will be mailed to their school showing the attendance record and final exam grade. Students are required to have a graphing calculator.

All classes start at 8:00am, and end at 12:00pm, except for classes running during Week 2, which will start at 8:00am and end at 1:00pm.

Week 1: Monday June 9, Tuesday June 10, Wednesday June 11, Thursday June 12, Friday, June 13
Week 2: Monday June 16, Tuesday June 17, Wednesday June 18, Friday June 20
Week 3: Monday June 23, Tuesday June 24, Wednesday June 25, Thursday June 26, Friday June 27

Students should bring snacks and a bottled drink.
