SUMMER CAMPS
Phone Filmmaking
A Camp for Young Filmmakers, Storytellers, and Creators entering grades 6 to 8.
Have you ever watched a great video and thought about what went into making it? In this camp, students learn to think and work like filmmakers – using nothing more than the phone in their pocket and a free browser-based editing tool called wide.video.
Starting with the fundamentals of how professional cinematographers frame shots, use available light, and capture clean audio, students quickly move into producing their own short films: a silent film told entirely through images, a documentary portrait of a fellow camper, a how-to video, and finally a two-to-three minute original film of their own design. Students will also explore the film and video industry – the careers behind the camera, how productions are structured from concept to screen, and what a director’s statement looks like.
Every project is shot, edited, and screened within the camp, and the week closes with a film festival where every student presents their final film to an audience. No filmmaking experience or special software is needed. Just bring your phone, your laptop, and a story you want to tell.
This program is run by Vineyard App Camp and is a full-day program. Please Note: Full-Day Exploration Camps do not include scheduled pool time due to the structure and schedule of our vendor partners’ programming.
