The Leader-in-Training (LIT) Program is the next step for older campers ready to develop their leadership skills and take on a more meaningful role within the Camp Chris community.

LITs learn through a combination of hands-on experience, leadership development, mentorship, and feedback from experienced camp staff. Participants work alongside counselors, help lead activities, support younger campers, and develop practical skills in communication, teamwork, responsibility, problem-solving, and confidence.

LIT 1: Age 14+, Entering Grade 9
LIT 1 is the first step in the leadership pathway. This two-week cohort experience combines structured training with opportunities to practice leadership skills alongside the Camp Chris team.

LIT 2: Grade 10+
LIT 2 provides greater independence and responsibility within the camp environment. Participants build on their previous training through increased involvement with camper groups, activities, and the day-to-day camp experience. Completion of LIT 1 at Summer at St. John’s or a comparable camp leadership program is required.

LIT 2 candidates are initially placed on a waitlist and contacted by the Director of Summer Programming to confirm qualifications before enrollment is finalized.

More than preparation for working at camp, the LIT Program helps participants become confident leaders, effective teammates, positive role models, and engaged members of their community.
