Important Information Regarding Summer Math Courses

A summer math course offers students an excellent opportunity to advance their skills and prepare for the next academic year. These fast-paced courses meet five hours a day, two to four days a week, over three weeks.

Eligibility Requirements:
To enroll, students must:

• Maintain a 92% or higher average on assessments throughout the academic year.
• Receive a recommendation from their current math teacher.
• Consistently complete homework and classwork assignments on time while staying current with all material.
• Maintain their grades for the remainder of the academic year; a drop in performance may result in losing eligibility for the summer course.

Advancement:
Students must successfully complete the course to advance their math placement for the following year.

This program is designed for motivated learners ready to take their math skills to the next level.

Algebra 1B Course Description:

This 40 hour class is for St. John’s Prep rising 9th graders who have been invited to take the class by their teachers 

Students will review the foundations for Algebra including functions, linear functions, and solving linear equations. The course will include a thorough examination of exponents including problems involving exponential growth and decay. Students will learn to operate with and factor polynomial expressions, and quadratic functions will be explored in-depth.

This course is designed for students who have excelled in a traditional 8th grade Introduction to Algebra I program and who wish to expand their knowledge to a more thorough second year Algebra I study. 

Successful completion of this course will result in placement in Accelerated or Honors Geometry in the freshman year.

All classes start at 8:00am, and end at 1:00pm and will run on the following dates:

• Week 1: Wednesday 3rd June, Thursday 5th June
• Week 2: Monday 8th June, Tuesday 9th June, Wednesday 10th June, Thursday 11th June
• Week 3: Monday 15th June, Tuesday 16th June 
• Final Exam: Wednesday 17th June 8:00am – 10am
